Personal Injuries

The Law Office of Carrie M. Wilcox offers representation in many types of personal injury cases. Although personal injury cases originate from a wide variety of misfortunes, some of the more common situations arise in the following areas:

 • ATV Accidents
 • Aviation Accidents
 • Animal Bites, such as dog attacks
 • Automobile Accidents
 • Bicycle Accidents
 • Boating Accidents
 • Brain Injuries
 • Construction Accidents
 • Defamation of Character (slander & libel)
• Fire Injuries
• Homeowner Liability
• Motorcycle Accidents
• Nursing Home Abuse
• Physical Assaults
• Premises Liability
• Slip, Trip or Fall Injuries
• Trucking Accidents
• Wrongful Death

Personal injury claims and other civil wrongs are referred to in the legal community as "torts." Torts fall into various categories. Intentional torts are those injuries that result when a person intends the results of his/her actions. Negligent torts (negligence) occur when one person's carelessness results in damage to another or another's property. Reckless torts (recklessness), a term that often describes a level of negligence falling between simple negligence and intentional actions and that usually describes a significant level of carelessness, can result in liability for physical and other damages.

Finally, a strict liability tort results when a situation is considered potentially extremely dangerous, someone is injured and the person responsible for creating the situation is considered liable even though they may not have been careless.

If you find yourself or a loved one the victim of another person or entity's injurious actions, whether by negligence, recklessness, intent or based on strict liability, The Law Office of Carrie M. Wilcox is there to defend your rights and seek justice.

Personal injury cases at our firm are litigated by Robert Edwards, Esq. Mr. Edwards and the firm operate with the guiding principle of client service. Virtually all phone calls and e-mails to Mr. Edwards are responded to within 24 hours. Clients are encouraged to ask questions at any stage of their personal injury case. That's why we are here. There are no stupid questions!

Mr. Edwards is thought of so highly by his peers (fellow personal injury trial lawyers) that he is called upon to lecture at trial lawyer seminars on a regular basis. Here is a partial list of the legal seminars that Mr. Edwards has spoken at in the last few years:

• Speaker, Motions Seminar, Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association, November, 2004. Topic: Limited Medical Authorizations.

• Speaker, Dealing with Farmers Insurance Company and Other Difficult Carriers, Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association, February, 2004. Topic: Limited Medical Authorizations.

Distinctions

• AV Rating (Preeminent) by Martindale-Hubbell
• "Who's Who In American Law," 1989-Present.

Publications

• Edwards and Karon; "ATV Litigation" Minnesota Trial Lawyers Magazine, Fall 1989.
• Edwards and Hicken; "Tort Actions Arising Out of Marriage" Minnesota Trial Lawyers Magazine, Spring 2000.

Experience does matter. Mr. Edwards has 25 years of experience in the area of personal injury law, including automobile accidents, construction site injuries, dangerous and defective products, dog bite cases, and wrongful death cases, to name a few. Almost every attorney charges the same contingency fee (33.3%) for the work that they do in personal injury litigation. Why hire a rookie when you can hire a veteran for the same price?

Mr. Edwards is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. This is a very difficult certification to get, and presently less than 4,000 attorneys in the United States have this certification. This certification is like the difference between someone who is a bookkeeper as opposed to a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). There are other certifications, given out by state bar associations, which generally are much easier to get then the National Board of Trial Advocacy certification. Not all certificates are the same!

Martindale Hubbell, the oldest and most prestigious lawyer rating service in the United States, gave Mr. Edwards its highest possible rating (AV) or, preeminent. There is no other higher rating available.
